The North America organic dairy food & beverage market is segregated into the countries of the United States and Canada for further research. In Canada, 43% of over 3,000 organic products are grown, packaged or processed in the country. Over half of the Canadians purchase organic products weekly, and the rate is higher for people living in large cities and households with young families as they find these products healthy and nutritious. Canadians prefer organic milk and yogurt more than organic butter, cheese, or ice cream. Organic milk production is concentrated in the provinces of Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, and British Columbia. Over half of Canadians are of the opinion that organic farming is better for a healthy environment. Most of the Canadians consider ecological sustainability when choosing food products and prefer products that are not genetically engineered. In Canada, the use of bovine growth hormones is not permitted due to animal health concerns. Hence, irrespective of how the cows are raised in Canada, there are not any nutritional issues with regard to hormones in milk. There are various other factors apart from the type of farming used that affect the nutrients in the milk, such as the breed of the dairy cow, diet, stage of lactation, and season in which milk is produced. Though organic milk products have been found to have a higher concentration of omega-3 fatty acids and CLA, better quality studies are required to prove that these small differences in nutrient levels benefit overall health.
